"I speak Russian" campaign, during which 230,000 signatures in support of a nationwide referendum on the status of the Russian language had been collected last year, restarted in Odessa. In a framework of the campaign, local dwellers are invited to sign a petition that protects their right to use Russian in daily life - administratively, at work, in cinemas, theaters, etc. Historically, Russian has always been the language of communication in Odessa. The campaign is aimed to organise resistance to recent attempts of Ukrainian authorities to impose Ukrainian language as the only choice in the Russian-speaking city.
