Turkey's Consul General to Odessa Murat Tamer said Turkish businessmen have been competing for numerous projects in order to have a share in the Ukrainian fortune that will be given to winning companies. Football matches between European national teams will take place in Poland and Ukraine. "Therefore, Ukraine needs to make a lot of investments to upgrade its infrastructure, construct football pitches and improve roads all across the country. A great many businessmen from Turkey are already here," he noted.
The government alone plans to spend around $4 billion for all the projects while the remaining $21 billion will be outsourced by Ukraine's private sector to any subcontractors that win the tender for specific projects.
In an interview with the Anatolia news agency, Tamer said that Transportation Minister Binali Yэldэrэm would visit Ukraine in a few weeks time to participate in the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSCE) meetings there, adding, "These visits by high-ranking state officials are extremely important in terms of boosting the chances of getting opportunities for investment and trade."
He also spoke about planned visit of Turkish Naval Forces vessels to the Port of Odessa between April 11 and 14. "We expect some 600 Turkish marines to come here. Their arrival is always welcome by Ukrainian officials. These soldiers frequently stop by this city and their visits help Ukrainians get to know Turkey much better."
Turkish Airlines (THY) Odessa office Manager Hasan Kэlэз, on the other hand, noted that the number of weekly flights between Эstanbul and Odessa would soon be increased from seven to nine. Ukrainians generally prefer to fly to Turkey's southern regions for their summer vacation.
